Another consideration – Mira Mesa. As AN has stated, most of the elementary schools over there are performing well. And the middle school and high school are as good or better than Stanley/UCHS. It has a reputation that is less than stellar – but the test scores of the past few years are totally in conflict with that reputation…In other words – people avoid Mira Mesa because they think the schools are subpar – but they’re actually very good.
Commute would likely be similar to LJ as from Clairemont.
Here’s an example… 500k, over 1500sf, canyon property.

Ah. we’re pretty split about that. We are very aware the schools are quite good there. I have no problems with their schools. I think though that Clairemont is a slightly better value (in the best areas) – more central/coastal location and older and no HOAs. I like it a little better that MM, while my husband favors MM – he likes a little more homogeneity, and community sense. I could be convinced either way. MM is newer but also more expensive, plus HOAs.
Commute will be longer for me (LJ cove/ village) from MM by at least 5′-10′; from Clairemont is a straight shot on 52. to UCSD, it’s probably a wash.
All in all it’s certainly on our list of areas, actually BECAUSE of the schools.
SD R, what do you think, when comparing the better areas of both MM (west) and Clairemont?
