Hey mixx, when you first created this thread, you were almost resigned to finding an alternative to SD. Then you saw enough signs of price drops coming in SD that you thought you’d wait a little longer. I think that was April. What are your thoughts now?
I am going through a parallel process here in OC, but about 9 months behind you. I was resigned to Vancouver, WA or maybe Myrle Beach, SC or Athens, GA, and actually visited Austin, TX, but what I really want is just to be able to afford to stay where I am in OC. I still can’t quite afford it, but it may happen in the next year or two, with luck.

December 9, 2007 at 7:18 PM #1126414plexownerParticipantI was in Austin this summer – walked around UT campus several days in a row – at 40+, it has been a long time since attractive twenty-something-year-olds have smiled beckoning-ly at me (or was that just my imagination?) – I dress like a bum (everyday is casual friday) and I was walking (no Beemer) so they weren’t smiling at my money – it made me think longingly of returning to school and pursuing these young coeds (oops, I mean getting another degree)
watched the bats flying out from under Congress street bridge at dusk – went to Inner Space Cavern about 45 minutes north of Austin (right off of I-35 and well worth doing!) – Conan’s still makes killer pizza but they have moved off of the drag – lots of new condos but didn’t seem like downtown was over-run with new high-rise condo buildings – traffic was heavy but Austin isn’t the sleepy little town it used to be – currently ranks about 16th by size with about 700K people in city limits
I could live in Austin – have me a bachelor pad on the edge of the UT campus – hang out at Barton Springs when it got too hot … maybe offer tutoring to young coeds … hmmm

December 9, 2007 at 8:05 PM #112576sdrealtorParticipantI have and I just lost a lot of respect for Business Week. There is no such place as Echelon, NJ. Echelon is mall, at one time the largest indoor mall in America. It is not a town. It is also not a family oriented place. It is inhabited mostly by young adults and lower middle class blue collar families. It is anyhting but a close knit community. Anything desireable about it they found was most likely the result of the nice areas in the town it is located in which are on the complete opposite end of town. There is lots of crime, auto theft and break ins around there. the mall itself has fallen on hard times and most of it was recently bulldozed. The best comparison I could offer is if they dropped a square mile of multi-family neighborhoods from Mira Mesa or El Cajon into the middle of Encinitas and said look isnt this wonderful!
