Does your son have an IEP? Are you asking which district will provide better services for young boy with ADHD?
Just my 2 cents when I worked at Poway Unified almost 15 years ago as a Special Education Teacher, I thought Poway did not provide adequate services for students with disabilities; however, that was 15 years ago. I hope things have changed. Are you looking for pull in services or pull out services? San Diego Unified now uses the pull in services (where Special Education Teacher actually goes into the mainstream classroom to provide services)
I would call each district from Poway and Del Mar, and ask what type of special education model do they provide for a student with an IEP.
If your son does not have an IEP (individualized Education Plan); the district will probably not provide much services except under education 504 where you may have to ask for it. Be educated and advocate!!!

March 29, 2011 at 10:06 AM #681415seattle-reloParticipantWe were in the Poway Unified school district in 2007-2008(Westwood Elementary) and had a terrible time with the special ed services. My child has high functioning autism and after going through the qualification process, they still denied him any services.
When we moved to Texas and started the process over, the new school was shocked that my son didn’t qualify for services – he cleary has autism. I’m guessing that it’s a budget issue???
I really don’t know anything about Carmel Valley’s schools in regard to special ed services. I highly encourage you to arm yourself with special education laws and procedures when working with whatever school your son ends up going to. You might also want to do a search for special education advocacy groups in San Diego to give you more insight into what schools might be better suited for your child.
