Meadandale,
I think they had already paid something for the box and he was holding that money hostage. Something like extortion. You can’t have your money back and he won’t take the strawberries he claims are in excess of those paid for back. I would have definitely found a fair solution and forced it upon him.
That’s why I always ask “How much?” before handing over a penny. When he tried to up the price I’d have walked.
Shady people like this suck…

July 23, 2009 at 10:06 AM #436182CoronitaParticipantDon’t those pick a place say you can eat as much as you want on site for free but you just have to pay for what you take home? π
If so, I would have just eaten the extra strawberries before leaving…in front of the clerk.
Briansd..It’s not the money, it’s the principle of the thing. Nothing annoys me than calling store X and getting a price X and then going to store and finding price is Y where Y> X…And that doesn’t matter how much the actual amount is. When you get a price, you expect that that price is what you pay. Whether that price is “overpriced” is irrelevant.

July 23, 2009 at 10:33 AM #436438freshmanParticipantThe cost of picking your own is higher than the same amount you can buy in supermarket. Also, the strawberry is not sweet there. We like to pay more than “supermarket” price, because it is supposed to be fun to pick and enjoy the time with kids and friends there. That fat guy (not sure if he is the owner’s family or just employee) wants to rip off and he said “it is not for your fun, we are doing business” ! we paid more than supermarket price because of fun, if we want better quality and lower price, we surely won’t go to pick there!
Basically, you go and pay for the box first, then you can go inside, eat and pick. There is no sign for how much you can pick or how much you can eat free there. They have watchdog to check your box before you leave. So, it seems they mean to charge on you if they are not satisfied how much you pick. Also, they have watchdog inside the field. I am wondering if you eat too much free there, they may come to you and ask you to pay more!
If you want to have fun to pick , don’t go there. Or you can prepare more cash or prepare your cell phone to call police.
