ParticipantI took about a year off after I left my last firm back in 2005. It’s good to see more of the world and clear out the cobwebs. I’d like to do it again sometime this decade but it all depends on a bunch of factors. I’m way too tied down with work for the next 5 years to consider it before then.

ParticipantIf you have the means, do it! Memories are priceless, and trips like you describe will stay with you forever. If work/money/whatever gets in the way, shorter but more frequent trips can accomplish the same thing. I generally try to take 1 big trip per year, with lots of smaller 2-5 day trips sprinkled throughout the rest of the year. I’d be a psychopath if I didn’t get my regular mind reboots.
