I recently considered an XI (3 or 5 series), but I just can’t get past the maintenance issues and costs.
I can get a G35 with both great performance and reliability.
The first 4 years of a new Bimmer, you don’t need to worry about the maintenance since it’s included, except tires and gas…
Not sure though why one would want an XI versus say a G35x or a Audi Quattro (just like don’t understand folks that get a Audi without Quattro)…But that’s just me.
7 series are interesting, because for awhile they’ve had their electrical gremlins with the iDrive. Also, they depreciate pretty fast, because they are often switched out for the latest and greatest all the time. 06’s/07’s can be had for around $40 or lower. O8’s slightly more.
Reliability on the 7’s are pretty bad along with X5’s.
I really like the X5’s but couldn’t deal with the gremlins if they were to occur.I wish they had a 335d in coupe or an A5diesel in the states.

And the other car getting the Bimmer Crowd Cold Shoulder, the Gran Turismo, sharp little buggy! I was behind one the other day and it has a very wonderful stance.
I may end up owning a BMW one day (and I don’t care what others think of what I drive, so shoot away – nobody’s said “Break My Windows” yet, I’m surprised)
If you’re considering a family hauler, go with a CTS Spec-V :)…Those things are a blast to drive for a family hauler.
