DW I understand exactly what you are saying. Over the past year we have seen quite a few Piggs throw in the towel and purchase homes. In some of the cases I think they did feel that they got a smoking deal and discussed it accordingly. In other cases I think they just found a place that made sense for them, (both financially and emotionally) rather then getting a great deal.
Your point is well taken but I think the purchases by Piggs over the past 6 months clearly displays the differential in valuations of price verses having a home to own rather then rent. For those that have already made a purchase they put more emphasis on the latter then the former. I am not saying either one is better. Personally I haven’t bought yet but moreso because of not finding what I want. It is simply a personal choice right?

Having been a home owner since 1988 selling a few buying others I can tell you , being a home owner beats the Sh*t out of renting even in the bad times just as long as your not planning on selling for at least 10 years and your in no real danger of losing it anyway.
And of course you like the home and surrounds.
