As for you software techies that worry about the economy, guess there’s no sympathy that the biotech industry is getting shafted by the conservatives, eh?? Nice….[/quote]Dude, everyone’s gonna get the shaft under with this bailout bill. Doesn’t matter. A tax on the “wealthy” only is a tax no more. Look at the financial numbers. Government is gonna spend spend spend. Not on infrastructure and education some politicians are leading you to believe…But on $700Billion+ to bailout wall street. That money isn’t just gonna come from “the wealthy” whatever that means.
Bookmark this tread, and let’s see what happens. the worst thing that can happen is a government that has an unchecked license to spend spend spend spend spend.
Oh well, there’s always canada, eh?

October 6, 2008 at 10:31 AM #282006DukehornParticipantI’m talking about the “no research at all” on hESC cells platform that the Republicans adopted at their National Convention (on top of existing regs).
It’s not always about money. That’s my beef with your post. The fact that most of my collaboration deals are with foreign universities should be a wake-up call that the biotech industry is getting screwed here and a portion of it will go overseas.
But who cares about research or the environment when all you worry about is the size of your retirement fund, right?
And if was about spend, spend, spend, why in the hell weren’t you complaining when the SEC budget gets cut. Surprise, no regulatory enforcement, what happens?
Why aren’t you complaining when legislation is passed stating that corporations will self-regulate themselves on SEC and EPA matters? You believe that criminals do self-report?
The bail-out isn’t the problem, we all know that, so if you’re going to be the type that blames it on Jimmy Carter, let’s take a step back and really look at Phil Gramm.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-aviator6-2008oct06,0,7633315.story
The 23-year-old junior lieutenant wasn’t paying attention and erred in using “a power setting too low to maintain level flight in a turn,” investigators concluded.
In his most serious lapse, McCain was “clowning” around in a Skyraider over southern Spain about December 1961 and flew into electrical wires, causing a blackout, according to McCain’s own account as well as those of naval officers and enlistees aboard the carrier Intrepid.
John McCain crashed three planes, mostly due to lack of judgment. If it had been any other pilot who wasn’t the son of an admiral, his career would have been over after the first crash. If that’s not affirmative action, I don’t know what is.
