I agree however that it's important to stay anonymous, you never know what kind of scammers are out there.
Getting scammed is one thing. Getting yourself and your family beaten up, robbed, or worse is something else. It's one thing for some folks on this board for example to post inflaming things, because there is a certain level of anonymity you can maintain.
But craigslist, if you use it for it's purpose, will eventually put you in contact with some random stranger from your post. These idiots are sort of the people you want to slap on the face, not because one would be jealous of the person, but because the person has "jackass" stamped on his face. He thinks he's on top of the world because he has $500k in the bank (which btw is losing purchasing power as he speaks), and yet his post's purpose if at all is only designed to infuriate people. And take some nutcase off the street that does a wee bit of social engineering to give him the impression of being desperate to unload a "toy", and have that nutcase decide to bring a gun, knife or gang to an arranged meeting with that "jackass", and pretty soon that "jackass" won't be feeling to smart with his post. Obviously, this guy is not the most sophisticated/careful person and complete disregard for his family. If there is any lesson to be learned if you have a little bit of money is that you don't flaunt it, especially during a recession. I use craiglist in the past, and frankly a few times were pretty sketchy, i really don't waste my time trying to sell cheap used crap on it anymore.
07-22) 15:10 PDT WALNUT CREEK — Two men suspected of armed robbery after responding to an advertisement posted on the Craigslist.org Web site are in police custody, the Walnut Creek Police Department reported today.
Walnut Creek police arrested the men on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the armed robbery that took place on Sunday.
Police were called to the covered parking lot of the Target store located at 1871 N. Main St. in Walnut Creek at 8:21 p.m. Sunday, according to Walnut Creek police Lt. Mark Covington.
Covington said the victims, who were from the Livermore-Pleasanton area, had posted some hooded sweatshirts for sale on the Web site. They arranged to meet with the suspects to sell the items at the Walnut Creek Target store parking lot.
At about 8:20 p.m., the two suspects, both young Asian men, arrived in the parking lot in a black Lexus. One of the suspects then pulled a silver handgun and pointed it at one of the victims, reportedly saying, "This is how we're going to do this.''
As the suspects made off with 11 sweatshirts, they flashed a gang sign and said, "This is West Pittsburg,'' according to Covington.
After a police investigation, detectives identified Vu "Michael" Le and Bryant Lam, both 18 years old, as the two suspects involved in the robbery.
On Wednesday, police served search warrants at Le's home in West Pittsburg and Lam's home in Walnut Creek. Detectives found several of the stolen sweatshirts, the handgun used in the robbery and handgun ammunition as well as other items linking the two men to the robbery, police reported.
Le and Lam were both arrested on charges of robbery and participation in a criminal street gang. According to police, Le was wearing one of the stolen sweatshirts at the time of his arrest.
Both men are in custody and bail has been set at $115,000 for each, police reported.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and have asked that anyone with information call Detective Randy Dickey at (925) 943-5844.
In an apparently unrelated case reported several weeks ago, San Jose police reported a series of armed robberies by a suspect posing as a seller or buyer on the Craigslist.org Web site.
That suspect was described as a black man between the ages of 18 and 25, standing 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing between 140 to 160 pounds with a "thin but muscular build.''
