ParticipantThose w/families will have a tougher time. In the end, self-preservation. If you don’t have the money for any kind of decent quality of life, you will do what you have to do. Maybe the kids will move, too. It certainly won’t be any easier for them.
I know back in the day when my parents decided to move back to Italy it was a major shift in life. Us kids had to learn the language. We were okay w/it. In a few years when we had to move back, I didn’t want to. Kids adjust to just about anything. Looking back, I feel lucky to have had that experience.
Those w/little kids will have to think about what’s best for them. That may or may not be dealing w/the high COL and the future it holds for their kids.

Participant
My friend opened a B&B on Isola d’Elba and it’s tempting to just call it quits and move there.
But…But…But…Have you not forgotten?
One word summary…
PIIGS
Soon to be
PIG SHI…. (Portugal, Iceland, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Italy). Now if there was only a country begining with T in the euro block, the word would complete appropriately…

ParticipantBoy. I can’t believe I’m going to say this. But. That island seems like it’s own little country that is self-sustaining. If you are not a consumer (I’m not) you could live a comfortable life there. Now the rest of Italy will be hurting, along w/the other European countries. It will be an adjustment for alot of people in this world.
