I lived in CBS for a few years, then Carlsbad, and now Carmel Valley, so I know the traffic. I work in UTC, and with the bypass, it’s a 10 minute commute, parking lot to garage(12 if there’s traffic). The farther north you go will add to that:
Going north:
Having to do merge #2 (Del Mar Heights – Via Del La Valle will probably add another 10-15 minutes to your commute. Going to CBS will add another 5-10 to that depending on traffic. So you’re looking at about 30 mins to CBS give or take 5.Going south:
The traffic begins to speed up about CBS, so going to work will be a breeze anywhere up to about Mid Encinitas. As far as the BK, I don’t think most private renters ever run credit, but I’m sure some do. I know my landlord in Carlsbad did, but that’s the only time they ever did, cause I run my credit every year for free at the ONLY site that offers this: http://www.annualcreditreport.com (this is the government mandated site)

Buy every B’day cake at VG’s and gotta love those glazed donuts and the smile cookies for the kiddies. Know many people that have lived there 20+ years. Rented a home on Bristol for a couple years in the late 80’s. Have sold several homes there. Watched more than 100 sporting events at Yogi’s. Have had romantic interludes on Manchester, Cambridge, Oxford, Liverpool, Glasgow and Dublin.
Yeah, I think I’ve been there a few times!

Wow, I’m from the United Kingdom originally and even I’ve never been to all those places, let alone had romantic interludes there.
You surely are a world traveller, sd “Big House” realtor. 🙂
July 26, 2006 at 9:40 PM #29763sdrealtorParticipantWhat can i say, I got around like an alley cat b4 i was married. BTW, they are street names.
July 26, 2006 at 9:45 PM #29764carlislematthewParticipantYeah, I know they’re street names – I’m fairly new to town, but have been up there a few times myself.
I find it amusing how city developers come up with street names…
July 26, 2006 at 10:55 PM #29772sdrealtorParticipantHere’s one for you. In Rancho Penasquitos there’s an area where it seems like half the streets are named Diablo something or other.
July 27, 2006 at 12:25 PM #29819CardiffBaseballParticipantDonut’s from VGs today lunch at Rico’s although that’s going into Encinitas.
In any case I commute to Genessee, and at around 8-8:30 from Birmingham to Genessee, it’s rarely more than 25 minutes. On the trip home, it can take slightly longer because of Via De Le Valle, I’d put the 4-5 commute at 30-40 minutes with once in a while an event or wreck pushing it over 50. Once you get through the merge down to 4 lanes, Birmingham isn’t far at all.
July 27, 2006 at 1:26 PM #29831anParticipantEveryone has their own level of tolerance for commute time. I used to live in Oceanside and commute to scripps poway, scripps ranch, and now Sorrento Valley. I can’t stand waisting over 30 min one way just to get to work or get home. Now, it takes me 5-10 min to get to work. It makes like so much better. So for me, anywhere north of the 56 if you work in Sorrento Valley is too much since getting home would take you over 30 minute easily.
July 27, 2006 at 4:16 PM #29849mixxalotParticipantI am leaning toward UTC area off Genesee since its very convenient and minutes from work off the 5 North and 805 North to Mira Mesa exit by work. Only problem is that apartments and condos are very expensive in UTC for some odd reason. Anyways my lease is up in late November so I have some time to plan this one out. I will not mention my BK unless I have to do credit report.
July 27, 2006 at 9:50 PM #29897CardiffBaseballParticipantWell I avoided Sorrento Valley because of schools.
I avoided UTC because I didn’t want the kids in Condos. However it sounds like you don’t have any of these issues. I most certainly would have chosen UTC or Sorrento Valley otherwise because I don’t like to have a long commute either. So it really depends on what your personal interests are outside of work. Pretty easy in Cardiff to hit the beach on the weekends and evenings for a little surf time.
