Perry, I can’t beleive that you think traveling with the military does not count. What a snob! It is true that some people choose never to leave their comfort zone but you can’t lump all people together! My husband took every chance he could get (leave, weekends) to travel around and immerse himself in the culture.
By the way, there are plenty of civilian people living in other countries who never leave their American compound.
Perry, I would have responded earlier, but I just got back from WalMart, having a corn dog for lunch, and checking out the latest NASCAR videos and country music CDs.
On our destroyer, some of us brought our bicycles onboard. We’d tie up at some overseas port, get on our bikes, and hit town. Believe it or not, some us (one now with a Ph.D. from M.I.T.) would hit the local museums. Some of us went to arranged dinners with local families. We’d then pedal back to the ship, store the bikes, then head back out for more normal young man’s fun, drinks and carousing in the evening.
Nah, we (ex) military folks aren’t just a bunch of lager louts. Some of us are cultured lager louts.
jg, when you were at Walmart checking out Nascar and country music, being the snob that I am, I was at the Getty with a friend admiring the Icons from the Monastery of St Catherine. I didn’t even know there was a Christian monastery at the foot of Mt Sinai.
I thought that military travel was limited to the “GI you come, I love you long time” sites, ha.ha. (just joking).
It’s funny how Bush was demonized because of rumors that he had used cocaine and the liberal media gives its darling, Osama, a free pass for “using a little blow.”
I guess a lot of graduates from Harvard Law School do a “little blow.” It’s part of their yearly bonus.
Kind of like what Bush used to say, the soft bigotry of low expectations: he’s a black guy, can you really expect him not to have been a user of hard drugs?
But, the good news is that Hillary’s minions will continue their digging on Osama, and I bet that the stuff that she digs up will get plenty of air time at the right time.
Otherwise, she runs the risk of the folks in Iowa and New Hampshire voting for Osama. And she won’t let that happen.
