A few reasons
(1) they loooove fried food – not healthy
(2) the area has high humidity. Have you ever lived in high humidity? It saps your energy. I came alive when I moved to CA…lack of movement promotes obesity
(3) I haven’t figured out the poverty aspect…perhaps its tied to (2) and the lack of movement. Shrug.May 19, 2020 at 9:37 PM #817429FlyerInHiGuest
A few reasons

Singapore is just about the most humid place on earth, so much so that the country’s founder said that the best human invention is air-conditioning.
But people there are very smart and hard driving. They are laser focused on OCED ratings and always want to be a the top. They are like smart students who always stress about not always being at the top of the class. Singaporeans need to be “fit for military service” until age 49. They are fined if they become too fat.
My friends and I have a “conspiracy” theory about the Anglo food supply. US, Canada, UK, Australia all have fatter people than other places.
Mexico is really fat too. It’s the processed food supply.
For the USA, i agree that humidity makes you lethargic. I say that back East, the sky is lower from all the moisture. It’s funny when I return to San Diego from Vegas it takes me about a day to get used to the higher humidity

San Diego humidity is nothing like the southeast, from the Carolinas all the way through TX and OK. I don’t want to even move when humidity and temperatures are high at the same time.
May 20, 2020 at 8:16 AM #817436scaredyclassicParticipantI remember humidity in nyc, but I dont rwcall being laid low by it.
I mean, when it rains, its 100 % humidity, and it’s always fun to ride or run in the rain.
Heat, I like, with enough water to drink, I’d run in 90 degrees.
Maybe its the combo? Heat plus humidity. But dont they have seasons?
Or people just feel gross sweating?
I enjoy being soaking wet with sweat, but the humidity affects the sweats cooling ability apparently
Honestly, I’m completely ignorant about the south, though very prejudiced against them.
Would never choose to live down there, dont think they’re more stupid, just somehow fucked up and twisted, and not ok with minorities, which may not be true but I wouldnt risk it, as a place to live in.
but I’d really like to know why they weigh so much more.
It’s just fried food? Cant they knock it off? How can you eat fried food in the heat? Seems like that would be grosser than exercising.
A big plate of fried crap in 90 perc humidity? If the conditions are ok for fried food, seems like its ok for a walk.
May 20, 2020 at 8:33 AM #817439FlyerInHiGuestThe constant condescension from the coastal elites made them eat and get fatter, just to spite all of us.
When Michele Obama said to eat more fruit and veggies, they stuffed themselves with fried chicken and apple pie instead. That’s what real Americans do. Ain’t nobody tellin’ ‘em what to eat.
Maybe obesity is the price of freedom.
May 21, 2020 at 2:56 PM #817486FlyerInHiGuestToday’s weather in San Diego is just the best. Not too humid, hot or cold. I’m feeling energetic! Sitting on the terrace enjoying the breeze.
May 21, 2020 at 7:31 PM #817506barnaby33ParticipantWait you’re feeling energetic, but sitting on the terrace? This does not compute.

Josh
After I went for a walk at the park. Not a run, just a nice walk. In San Diego, it feels like the outside is air conditioned.
