To the south you have Colorado Springs… Small population of right wing religious gun tottin’ conservatives…
To the North, Boulder… Nano Nano Mork and Mindy spaced out pot smoking tree hugging liberals…
And in between it all… and representative of the population of the US… Good ole moderate tolerant Denver. . .
But seriously… Denver is a good place to live but you are a slave to the I25 and I originally got out because I never thought I could afford a home there. Remember Denver had a housing market crash shortly before the last one.
Also as for the skiing… It Sucks! Try getting back from the slopes on the I70 during the weekend. 4 hour trip minimum.
Plently of good Mexican food. Downtown is fun. And you have to eat at Carboni’s on 38th Ave. Best Italian sandwich shop in the world. Two little old married Calabresi run it and yell at each other constantly. I would go eat there just to watch them bounce of each other . . .
LOL, luv your characterizations, CDMA π
I don’t recall CO Sprs as being ultra-religious back in the day. Is this a more recent phenomenon? Always loved Boulder, though . . . hiking and floating on the reservior. I don’t consider Boulder part of Denver, but maybe they’re more “grown together” now, like everywhere else.
Funny you should mention (West) 38th Ave, CDMA. That was near my mom’s old ‘hood. I’ll have to try that place out next time I go.
Hijack: Hey CDMA, as I stated before, you were going the WRONG WAY to ski. Take US 40 off I-80 just north of Park City, UT. You will pass Dinosaur, Craig and Hayden, CO to Steamboat Springs, CO. This is an 18.5 hr. stress-free drive from SD (w/o snowstorm). You will check into your underground parking garage at the hotel/condo on the slopes. It’s ski-in, ski-out (literally ski to the front door), unlike Lake Tahoe resorts.
Take a person with you to help drive and you can do it in one day π
OR Cont’l Airlines has svc from CA airports to Hayden, CO, where a hotel shuttle will come and get you. There is a free bus from the slopes to the town if you want to go out at night. No throngs of skiers to fight on the road and no veh needed π
You can also take I-70 to CO 131 thru Walden, CO, turn north and then turn back a little west on US 40 to Steamboat Sprs. There is more traffic this way, though, due to the turnoff proximity to Vail and Beaver Creek and CO 131 is prone to intermittent closure.
This is an awesome winter vacation if you approach it from the proper direction.

June 9, 2010 at 11:18 PM #561640CDMA ENGParticipantMy dearest Bearish…
I have also been a resident of Salt Lake City. I lived on 9000 South. From my apartment parking lot I turned onto 9000 South drove due east for 15 minutes made one right hand turn and BAM! ALTA! 30 minutes from front door to lift… I lived the blessed life back then…
More of a Little/Big Cottonwood fan than a Glitzy Park City type… Though it is amazing to be there during Sundance… More stars than the night sky all within a arms distance…
The springs has gotten a little more conservative remember it is home to many military types and “there are no athestist in foxholes” so in general it is a bit more conservative. People were still very nice there…
Oh and as for Carboni’s its actually Carbone’s… Yelp it… I think you will have to go after you read yelp…
I did one week between both valleys last year for skication…

May 11, 2020 at 6:37 PM #817175svelteParticipant
My brother lived for 20 years in that part of the world. In Denver, Boulder, Arvada, and Ft. Collins. I spent a good part of the fall/winter of 2007 shuttling back and forth to Denver and Ft. Collins when my brother was sick.
Good things:
– It’s gorgeous! Undeniably, take your breathe away gorgeous. The mountains are spectacular.– It’s less expensive. A lot less expensive. My brother owned 3 houses in 20 years – all were about 1/3 of what you’d pay in San Diego.
Have you seen the prices in Boulder lately? Out of this world!
Take a look at Zillow and zoom in on any part of Boulder…prices put San Diego to shame – Boulder is super expensive…especially in the western part it appears.
May 13, 2020 at 8:36 AM #817217CoronitaParticipantHave you seen the fight Musk is having with CA/Alameda?
Colorado is looking better and better alternative to CA. Business friendly and pretty socially liberal. It’s like California without all the crazy progressives that can’t manage money.
https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-tweet-tesla-hq-colorado-2020-5
It’s also a beautiful state. Maybe I’ll end up being a CA refugee there. Lol. Plus, they are the home of one of my favorite companies. Flyin Miata, lol.
May 13, 2020 at 9:24 AM #817219FlyerInHiGuestFlu, if you donβt like it in California, feel free to leave. Some of us will help you pack.
May 13, 2020 at 10:47 AM #817224The-ShovelerParticipantFlyer,
If I understand your situation correctly you do not live in CA or pay taxes here.
I don’t think you are in position to say what CA should or should not do.
