Ravenswood Zinfandel. Always delicious and I’ve been able to buy it at Vons for about $5 at times. Just came back from book club – someone brought expensive wine but it was wasted on me …
August 26, 2016 at 9:18 AM #800893barnaby33ParticipantIf you are all slumming it anyway, why not just drink 2 buck chuck and git-r-done.
JoshAugust 26, 2016 at 12:35 PM #800894moneymakerParticipantIs it still $2? Wow haven’t bought that in a while but do remember it being pretty good for $2. RIP http://vinepair.com/booze-news/two-buck-chuck-is-done/

In case you didn’t read it all the way through, that “article” was an April Fools’ joke. We still have our “Two Buck Chuck,” (though I think it’s a bit more expensive these days) π
August 28, 2016 at 9:45 AM #800908mixxalotParticipantI am partial to reds and really enjoyed the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon by Line 39 WInery quite a bit value:
It is affordable and has won prizes.
August 29, 2016 at 7:59 AM #800914bibsoconnerParticipantWish I could find the article (and please post if you have it), but basically the $2 chuck was presented to a wine reviewer as part of a blind test. He rated it the lowest. The presenter then said to the reviewer, “Does it change your opinion if I tell you that this wine is only $2?” His response: “People actually pay $2 for this stuff?”
You can probably guess I’m not a fan π
To the other recommendations I’d add that for less than $6 you can get a Cameron Hughes Pinot Noir at Costco. Very good.
Cheers!
August 29, 2016 at 9:40 AM #800915HobieParticipantDon’t ya’ll remember when $2 Chuck first introduced everyone was having dinner party blind tests and it fooled even the snobs.
Always thought it was just a clever marketing gag to introduce people to wine. But all these years later, still going.
August 29, 2016 at 2:19 PM #800918mixxalotParticipantcheap $2 wine is great for cooking wine on the cheap. Or making sangria mixed wine cooler type drinks. Just like I use a large cheapo $3 bottle of tequila for making chile and mexican carnitas.

September 3, 2016 at 3:44 PM #800959mixxalotParticipantnice I just tried the 39 Line Pinot Noir which is quite nice wine for $8 on sale.

Stater Brothers has a sale, 40% off if you buy 6 or more bottles (30% off if you buy at least 4 bottles).
Enjoy! π
