My running trail takes me behind the truss yard and fill dirt place in the Poway Business Park. Even in early August, I was surprised to see they still had 14 guys at the truss yard, 4 rails of trusses they were building, and completed trusses and lumber stacked on the perimeter of the property. Next door, they were building a tower to hold more fill dirt, and there was lots of activity too.
Well, yesterday was the first time in about 6 weeks that I went running, what a difference! The truss yard was empty and quiet. 3 guys, no trusses in process or done, and only 1 truck and some piles of sheetwrapped lumber. Next door, the dirt fill place was quiet too. I didn’t see a single person outside.
I had been wondering how long these guys would keep building trusses. Looks they were out of work at least yesterday…
The phones have been very quiet all month at my manufacturing plant. Just this week however, I’ve had some really good inquiries.
I haven’t let anyone go yet, but if it keeps up, I will.
Haven’t noticed anything unusual at the grocery stores, etc. Then again, I try to avoid the malls, and movie theaters.
And, all my friends in construction are still busy, and employed. In fact, my parents are going to start a major rennovation on their home in Scripps Ranch in the next few months, so that will keep a few more employed.
From my perspective, things look pretty good.
I won’t lie though – my quiet phones have me worried.
