I do not think you are real: you are from Central Illinois (right?), and would “seriously consider” this house, at nearly twice what it would be worth in IL, sight unseen. You’re either trolling, or yes, nuts.

My question is not about the relative worth of this property to one in central Illinois, but rather whether it represented good value in the current Carslbad/Vista market.
Others have pointed out the poor location, which is good information to know. Obviously I wouldn’t buy a house sight unseen, but I’d like to have a list of properties to check out when I do visit. I can strike this one off my list.

Many posters on this forum, myself included, think the current prices will eventually collapse within spitting distance to the 2001 pricing before this is all over.
FYI, you might want to have some patience – one of the neighboring properties (same side of the street) just got reposessed by Duetsche Bank in September. I’m guessing this property will get relisted for less than $500,000.

Now is not a good time to buy -however if you have to own a home for whatever reason, as others have suggested, move here and take a short term rental. Go month to month, etc. Why rush into something? Check out neighborhoods and then decide what makes sense for you and your family. Do schools matter, do you want a larger lot or bigger home? Do you travel a great deal for work? if so, you might want to split the difference between your job and the airport.
Its many people’s opinion that in the Carlsbad area, La Costa is a great location, nice neighborhood for families, and has some decent values compared to other areas of North County.

November 6, 2007 at 8:29 AM #96300RaybyrnesParticipantMy sister is in a position where they could be relocating due to the company. They own their place. Company is going to subsidize the cost of the move so this has to enter into the equasion as to whether they want to buy something. Sometimes their wehn dealing with the company it is easier to buy. Additionally it provides an indication of stability and committment. While office politics should not enter the equasion it would be ridiculous not to recognise it exists.
