In my opinion, government intervention in housing works short term… but there will be bad results.

Well, see, government intervention did work in propping up house prices. The government has virtually taken over housing.

Will this new bubble pop and end badly? Likely.

Some conservatives posters on here like to claim things like “the government ruins everything it touches”.

But those same conservatives seem to think it’s perfectly OK to buy a house to live in long term because the government won’t let house prices drop further (that’s having faith that government intervention will be successful).

If government intervention is so ruinous, as claimed, the logical reaction would be not to buy into it but to get out of Dodge — as EconProf indicated he did in another thread.[/quote]

i picked up on it. i guess im an arch-conservative, in t e sense that i expect the govt’s efforts re housing to be useless ultimately. Sometimes I wonder how many self-proclaimed liberals like myself are actually extraordinarily conservative. The old saying goes, a liberal is just a conservative who hasnt been mugged yet. Not sure how to adapt that aphorism to financial decisions.

I agree. From a purchasing of real estate standpoint, I think that there will be more choices and better deals if you are patient.

That’s me. I’ve never been mugged or made to feel unsafe in any way. I flew after 9/11 and it didn’t bother me at all.

It’s true that liberals and conservatives are similar in many ways… but…

I agree. From a purchasing of real estate standpoint, I think that there will be more choices and better deals if you are patient.

slight hijack… I don’t think the tradtional views of liberal or conservative applies here on Piggington…

At least fiscally, this entire community skews very conservative. Personal responsibility runs VERY strong here among regular posters. Even though some of us are pretty “liberal”, politically, and others are more “conservative” politically.
