Wow,
I just read the comments section of the Kiplinger article. It appears that the regular readers IQ’s are far outstripped by their shoe size. Are we really this gullible? Are these real people or mindless robots making these posts? If you want the straight information the oil drum is pretty good http://www.theoildrum.com, lots of folks actually in the oil industry. Here is a good article on drilling opportunities in the offshore US, http://www.theoildrum.com/node/4215 it is pro drilling. The take home line though is
Prevent global warming
It is my understanding that even James Hansen feels that drilling offshore and in ANWR is irrelevant to global warming. There is just too little oil, and he feels that it will be drilled at some point anyhow.
Great, that amount of oil will save us.

Parents won’t be able to buy diapers because diapers are made out of oil and airline will go out of business due to the cost which would cause people to fly less. [/quote]Oh my goodness! Parents won’t be able to pollute the environment with their babies’ used-once, dirty diapers? However will humanity survive? God forbid parents have to switch to cloth diapers.
As for air travel, humanity survived just fine before air travel and I imagine we’ll be just fine once it becomes appropriately priced to include the amount of environmental waste it produces. Of course, faux-conservatives like AN won’t be able to fly thousands of missiles and other weapons over to Iraq in an unjust war but I think the U.S. will be OK. Actually, if air travel becomes a thing of the past, terrorists will have a much tougher time getting into the country.
Again, I see nothing but benefits to society from higher gas prices. Everyday I cheer oil to go higher. Today it was only up a buck or so. Not great, but better than no increase at all.

Man, you’re funny. My life style can easily afford $10-20/gal gas, so it won’t hurt me one bit. But I’d love to see what the American public will do to the government if this happens. I grew up with cloth diapers, so cloth diapers doesn’t affect me, but it sure affect a lot of the average American. What’s the point in bringing up the war? Did I ever said I support it? My gosh, talk about putting words in people’s mouth. Do you really think Bush wouldn’t attack Iraq if gas price go through the roof? I don’t know what you’re smoking but I sure want some. If air travel becomes a thing of the past, we’ll just go back to the 1800s again. Ain’t that a pleasure. I grew up in an environment that’s not that far off from that environment, so I can deal with it, but can you?
Majority of the people already agree to drill more at today’s $4/gal. I love to see what the American public will do when it gets to $10/gal. I can’t wait to see this oil bubble burst and see you burst into tears when that happens. This is nothing more than a bubble and we all know what happens to bubble… (no they do not leak out air).
