I dare the architect, Rob Quigley, to live in these places…Because I know he’d never do it.
I live not too far from these atrocities. I’ve been in all of them, including the first two “quonset hut” homes that were first built. Even if you like the pictures of the houses (I don’t), the designs are really impractical. There’s hardly any kitchen cabinets, no offstreet parking (not even in your own driveway and not even if front of your own place). These homes only have a small, two car garage when my home and most of the other homes in the neighborhood have three car garages. I could give you a list of what I’d call “defects.” The homes are built to block their neighbors’ views, which is not only poor design, but unnecessarily alienates the people who had been living there first. Also, there’s really no reason for these concrete block houses to have been so tall. They really out of place esthetically. Neither the block houses or the “quonset hut” homes have a formal front entry way…yes, there’s a door on the front side of the quonset houses, but it looks a closet door. All of the tract homes in the neighborhood have better, more useful designs than any of these homes, even though they sell for less. It took about 3 years for the quonset homes to be sold, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes at least that long for all the concrete homes to be sold.
That is in spite of the fact that the other homes in the surrounding area usually have multiple offers within two weeks of a for sale sign.
Bringing back an old topic back from the dust bin?
Jim did a tour of these last year:
