To the original poster I have a question.
What if the shit hits the fan in 10 years, and you crash two cars, your house burns down, you both get a treatable form of cancer…etc. Can you rejoin the high fliers if if you leave, or are you done?
Because if there is someway you could keep your foot in the door. Like contract work or consulting or something, I would do that. Because, at the end of the day, money doesn’t make you happy, but in the hands of a wise man, it certainly makes life easier.
I have contemplated leaving engineering many times, buying a cabin in the woods, and getting a job in the mountains, cutting wood, or snow surveying or something. But at the end of the day, I know that will bore me too.
I agree w/jstoesz. Do think about what things can happen that are not planned. I doubled up on my car payment so as to not have any debt. Then I was in a car accident and it was totaled. The universe sometimes has different plans.

Are we talking renting or buying. Because the median home price in Brooklyn park is right around 200k (yup you read that right), but the median price in MM is right around 500k.
The median price in MM is closer to 350k. There are 157 detached listings in MM as of this moment, and only 8 of them are above the 500k mark.
There are some really cheap houses in Brooklyn Park, like this one
http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6217-Century-Blvd-Brooklyn-Park-MN-55429/1955923_zpid/
and the only hitch is that the house is two blocks from this elementary school
and, judging by demographics, that part of Brooklyn Park is more similar to Encanto than to Mira Mesa.

That’s why I asked him/her to find a more comparable neighborhood with better schools. With regards to rent in MM, jstoesz, that doesn’t look fraudulent at all. Rent have been going for around $1700-1800 for a 3/2 or 4/2 for the last several years now. BTW, if you want cheap rent in SD, don’t look at MM. You should either be looking at South Bay, O-side, Vista, Escondido, or east county. MM is not expensive but it’s not cheap either.
