She has a physiological temperature control issue. It could be 68 in the room and she would be sweating and I’d be perfect. I’d prefer NEVER to use heat or air, but no such luck in this lifetime.
Yes, no fireplace in entire home (I didn’t build it, I just live there). Kinda odd, no? At least is is safer with young kid and dogs.
obviously the heater is what kills my electric bill.
SIDE NOTE…
I did go to Costco on Tuesday and bought two packs of their NEW DIMMABLE CFL flood lights (R30). I changed out my lights and put them in (just bedroom), hit the electronic dimmer and… they don’t work! Dimmed they just flicker and buzz loudly. Perhaps on a non-electronic dimmer it will work, but I’m going to have to stick with lower wattage standard bulbs. DIMMABLE CFL is a hoax (and they were still $6.50 each!).

January 29, 2009 at 3:20 PM #338317UCGalParticipantThat’s interesting about the dimmable bulbs… We have them in two lights that we use the dimmers on… Yes, the buzz if it’s below a certain point – but they work..
but our dimmers are the typical triacs – that clip the waves to reduce the power.

January 29, 2009 at 9:57 PM #338547no_such_realityParticipant“We have 3 levels, each has it’s own central air system, but NONE are used. In order to cut costs over long term we’ve added separate room air conditioners/heat pumps (the ones that go through the walls) in the kids and guest bedrooms), and for the master we have installed a split level air system just for the master (all doors closed). ”
I can’t imagine this isn’t a massive part of the drain. Small room based units are horribly inefficient and in heat mode really drain.
Also, how many and how long are the lights on? Are they 60W lights or larger?
Okay, having read the rest of this thread, it’s a joke right? Many fridges, wife sets the heat to 78, AC to 65, leaves the fridge door cracked open…
Don’t underestimate the power drain by those big TVs in standby waiting for you to hit the remote on.
