ParticipantThat’s a horrible area unless you don’t mind crack addicts and the like as your neighbors. If it’s zoned for commercial you might try building something there. The upside is that it’s walking distance to Holiday Liquor which has the best beer and wine selection in all of SD county. Not to far from all those DR Horton conoes that burned down during construction.

Do you mean Holiday Wine Cellar? 3.8 miles is only a walking distance if you’re an experienced walker IMHO.

ParticipantThis is actually a nice area, although it is close to the 15. There has to be a lot of freeway noise, could be eye level with the 15, in fact. It’s an area of houses on large lots, south and east of Canterbury Gardens, above North County Fair. There are walking trails all through the area, as Kit Carson Regional Park borders it. Maybe you just get used to the roar of traffic?

ParticipantThe Holiday Wine Cellar actually has a very nice wine selection downstairs, we try and stop in whenever we find ourselves in Escondido. They have some very rare wines and many very expensive wines, a nice place to shop if you want something for a special occasion.
As for the area of Escondido where the home is located, the thing that would concern me most is something that not many people know about: the old Chatham Brothers Barrel Yard located at 2257 Bernardo Ave. It is a superfund cleanup site – drive by and you’ll see vent tubes sticking out of the ground…it’s eery. The site used to be a barrel yard where trichloroethylene, benzene and polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs leaked into the ground water.
This leak formed a plume that headed southward towards Lake Hodges. This threat to the area water source lead to its inclusion on the superfund cleanup list.
More info on the site can be found here:

You’ll find a map of the plume on page 2 of the following document:
As you’ll see, the plume is a good 2000 ft from that house. People appear to be living just fine in the area, but it’s something you should be aware of before you buy in case it would affect your decision.
