Been told Ignite Carlsbad wont be back either
Where will all the Tinder first dates go now ;)
Black Rail across the street. Costs a little more but nicer with better food and drink
Ah! The old Tuscany location became the Black Rail! We’ll have to try that too!
Yes the old Wrinkle Room as it was known locally. New place has nice outdoor seating which has become the new must have
That means there were two Wrinkle Rooms in Carlsbad…The Alley in Carlsbad Village had the same moniker!
Just learnt somthin”
June 25, 2020 at 11:47 AM #818502CoronitaParticipantI’m bummed about the closing of Casa Sol Y Mar. In not surprised but we use to go to it all the time.
Also bummed about the closing of the Firestone shop in Mira Mesa
Really bummed about the closure of Boomers in Clairemont.

1. Takai/OB Sushi Sushi Newport at Cable – Owner Tim is very nice. Rather than have two sushi places on the same block, one is converting to Chinese. Hopefully will be better than the one awful Chinese place on Newport now. Very good quality at fairly low prices. $8 rainbow rolls are great.
2. JV’s Mexican, southern end of Morena Blvd – best casual Mexican in San Diego, possible to get low carb, several good grilled fish entrees. Standout is the salmon soft tacos.
3. Third Corner, Voltaire and W Pt Loma, – Amazing late night happy hour. Don’t know of any other place W of the 5 with a high end kitchen open in this 10-12pm time slot. Pretty good during the day and early evening too.
4. Pure Thai – top of the Voltaire hill – Excellent lunch specials. Never had anything not delicious there.
5. Blue Water Grill – Santa Monica Ave at the beach – Best fish tacos in SD, beach view. Seems expensive until you see that a single $6 or 7 taco is enough for a light meal.
6. Bulls Smokin’ BBQ, side street between Morena and W Morena – As good as Phil’s with no lines. Nice big place with giant open windows and outdoor areas for social distancing.
Love Third Corner. That late night happy hour is for workers in the hospitality industry after they get off work. Lots of wait staff and chefs hang at the one in Encinitas after work.

Firestone was going to be closed with or without covid. They’re taking that corner of the mall.February 20, 2021 at 9:42 AM #820573svelteParticipant
Check out Del Lusso’s if you haven’t already. Good food, comfortable out door space you can distance from others and owner is a great guy. Not a huge place but I like it there
We finally got around to trying Del Lusso, you’re right a very fun place. Everyone in the family loved it and that is saying something!

Was right across st from riverside court, my favorite spot to regroup, pee, drink a lot of coffee. Dwight schrute stopped in one day.
Pretty sad about that one. Plus i had a few free coffees coming from punch cards i keep finding in drawers. Great pastries. Water jug. Dammitall

https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/24/business/frys-electronics-closure/index.html%5B/quote%5DYeah that one hurts. It was my grown-up toy store.
I guess if the kid toy store Toys R Us folded, Fry’s was only a matter of time.
I love the internet but I also hate the internet. So conflicted.
February 26, 2021 at 1:25 PM #820689gzzParticipantI was at the Aero Drive location in August 2020, and it was bad. 1/3 of the store was emptied out with no stock, and few customers there.
In 2019 visits at the same location they looked like they were doing well.
February 26, 2021 at 6:23 PM #820690spdrunParticipantDon’t blame Fry’s on the Internet or even COVID hysteria about in-person shopping — the closest East Coast equivalent to Fry’s is Microcenter, and they have had lines out the door, COVID or no COVID.

Yes I blame it on the internet. Otherwise, if it was just a case of poor management, another brick and mortar electronics store would have popped up to take its place. There is no Microcenter anywhere near me and I doubt there ever will be.
February 26, 2021 at 7:55 PM #820692spdrunParticipantI wouldn’t be surprised if Microcenter took over some of the Fry’s locations. There is a market … B&H and Adorama in NYC have no shortage of customers even now. Microcenter has been packed, since they sell things that are OOS or have long waitlists online.
