1st home insurance covers appliances?

I just bought a foreclosed home and the seller paid for 1 year home insurance for $325.

There were a non-functioning wall oven and dishwasher. I already replaced the wall oven but some people told me that the insurance covers anything that built-in into the house like diswasher and wall oven.

Does it mean that I just call the insurance company and get a check for a new dishwasher.

I am thinking that this doesn’t make any sense. Why would the insurance company insures us for $325 and then give us a check for a wall oven and dishwasher.

Are you talking about homeowners insurance or a home warranty?

Homeowners insurance covers the house structure, etc… and protects against fire etc.

Home warranty can cover some of the major systems – if they fail – within a specific time period.
