ParticipantAbout the schools…Johnson Elementary seemed the closest and I just assumed…no research into that but we don’t have kids yet anyway although I know it is an important factor in picking a house regardless.
We are in this awkward price range of the 400s, of which there is not a whole lot out there with some architectural integrity…our limit is about 490 as we are buying on my credit alone. We are in 2nd place on a couple mid century moderns–Del Cerro and San Carlos but those don’t look promising. Are prices on midlevel houses expected to come down into our range? Because a house that was 700 that is now 530 still is unattainable at this point…March 4, 2009 at 8:18 AM #360148ndgrl

ParticipantThe Weaver house is really exciting and fun, however, usually if you are going to vary from the norm for a neighborhood, with investment in mind, the usual thinking is that you buy the worst house in the best neighborhood. To each their own though.
I won’t make a prediction on this house but imagination tends to put it as kind of wasting away in the future. I hope not.
I think almost everyone on this board believes most houses in the low 500’s are coming down into the mid 400’s, at least. Some think much more and it certainly doesn’t seem out of the question.
San Carlos is nice. Better houses there are getting into your price range gradually. I have friends who live a little west of Golfcrest. They have been happy there for about 8 years.

Participant

Not for nothing but white demographics do not necessarily imply good schools.
This is certainly true – but demographics like this (Lincoln High school, to which the house in question is assigned) does not imply a good school either.
So let me ask, what demographics do imply a good school to you?
In my line of work (and as a Realtor married to a teacher) I have found that scholastic achievement is really more of an indicator than racial profiling.
Would you disagree?
