If not for the commute, those listings just might convince Mr. CAR and I to move to Poway. I really like those homes, and the price is right, compared to what we’ve been looking at! :)
That’s sarcasm, isn’t it?
500k for a 1500 sf 40-year-old house on a 7000 sf lot is nuts. The only thing that can possibly justify that price is PUSD. And I’m not certain about that, either. I’ve been driving past a rank 7 high school on my way to & from work for the last six months and it looks like a perfectly civil place to me. (I might get a better idea when my kids are old enough for high school, which will be roughly 10 years from now – assuming that I’m still in San Diego at that time. My fall-back plan is to rent a granny flat in PUSD for $600/month and to use it to send kids to Rancho Bernardo High.)
I wish it were. Not because I think standard, 1,500sf houses should sell for $500K, but because those same houses would be selling for $650-700K in our neighborhood. π

A model match in Mira Mesa might go as low as 350.
Ha, that’s low! You should see the free-lunch .pct in my hood.
Edit: That’s a pretty sweet looking place compared to the dreck in San Marcos.
