ParticipantI just got a 5% increase that takes effect next month. There are plenty of comparable houses for rent here in RB, some for as much as 10% lower and sitting on craigslist for many weeks while gradually dropping in the asking rent. But I’ve been in this place for only one year, and the waste of time and money that is moving is still fresh in my memory. Perhaps I’ll move next year — amortizing the pain over 2 years makes it more acceptable.

Participant15% here. I’ll be moving out. I agree that there are a lot of vacant places tied up in foreclosure and that is distorting the rental market. This housing bubble has distorted almost every market there is.

ParticipantI guess I got lucky, no rent increase. I think the landlords memory of 2 months vacancy hurt. Dont be afraid to move, they are not afraid to give large increases.
