Zeit: I had a Jesuit buddy of mine send me that same article very recently. The magazine, The Trumpet, is a party organ for the Philadelphia Church of God, which is, as I understand it, a funky offshoot of the Seventh Day Adventists. This article is a mish-mash of convoluted prophecy and entirely consistent with some of the apocalyptic pronouncements of groups like the Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses (who are famous for calling the date of the end of the world, only to have to recant and come up with a new date when the old one passes without incident).
Farcical as it is, I’d be hard pressed to imagine modern Germany as anything like it’s predecessors in either 1914 or 1939 (or 1870, for that matter). The German Army of today, the Bundeswehr, is primarily defensive in nature and I would imagine that the French or British would soundly thrash them in about a week or so, if it came to that.
But, ceteris paribus, I could be wrong and we’ll all be speaking German by next year. Good news there is a still retain a little bit of the mother tongue and am Catholic, so perhaps I can ingratiate myself with our new masters.
