You know, I've spotted future trouble of being salaried guy in tech over the long period of time. Even before this mess of the recession, it always concerned me that I didn't think I'd be able to be a hacker/engineer all the way until I'm 40,50,60…It just seems like a lot to keep up with younger versions of you. How do some of you feel about this?
That was my motivation to try to do something on my own…I don't feel there is such thing as job security anymore frankly..And I love tech too much to give it up….So, I guess I feel it can't end with me just being a worker bee. We'll find out in the next few months how things go.
Today was d-day for me (deadline day). AKA, in a few weeks I'll find out if my team is one of 50 out of the thousands that Google will select in a mobile app competition. Part of a greater master plan of me and team to depend on a single employer. Actually, the cash price isn't much $25k first round..It's $200k second+. But, it would be good namely for the name recognition. It would be something that's worth talking about when you're talking to VC's. Nevertheless, short of winning against the odds, we're pushing forward.
Talking to my partners, we've decided after the competition is over and results are in, we will be making the mobile client app part completely open source. Since we need to build out a quick developer base and adoption, and since how we intend to make money is completely on the server side. Also need to figure out the iphone sdk and blackberry sdk in the next couple of weeks. Anyone developing on these two platforms???
