Yeah, I guess Scala’s leans towards Italian (though technically it’s fusion). The food is great. One fun part is that, while you wait for your table, you can go next door (without going outside) to the Sir Francis Drake for a drink…they have some sort of agreement going. The lobby of the SFD is very cool, looks like it hasn’t changed in 100 years, very tall space, seems like all the guests are from Europe too.
And John’s Grill leans towards steakhouse, though it’s not. The fun part there is the decor and the tightness of the tables…they are very close together and you get to know your neighbors. Sit on the second floor if you get the choice…they have had live piano every time we’ve been there. One time we got a table that wasn’t the greatest..the maitre’D noticed we were getting jostled from time to time and offered us a free drink and dessert, without us saying a word about it. Now that’s caring!
