with all due respect dg, I think you’re really making it much harder than it needs to be 🙂
It’s carpet. Carpet is carpet. You’ll long need to change it before worry about things like the warranty, etc especially if you have kids (or plan on having kids).
I’m running my onto my 5th year, and despite being the typical anal asian family that makes people take off their shoes, my berber type carpet has shown it’s age.
Two problems with berber or pattern type carpet. If you get berber and you want it to last, you probably should get one that is firmer and stiffer. BUT that trades off confort.
We picked stuff with the tactesse fiber, wich gives you the soft feel on a patterned carpet. But note after 5 years of use, the patterns are starting to show warpage.
The other problem is that if you ever get it cleaned(I have a Bissel machine)….while the cleaning makes the carpet look better, it also takes off some of the carpet protector each time, making it easier to get dirty the next time.
We’ll probably end up replacing carpet in the high traffic area (living room) with wood in a year or two.
I wouldn’t recommend getting carpet from HomeDepot or Lowe’s because normally these places aren’t really selling “high end carpet” at good prices (they tend to sell good carpet at high end prices or high end carpet at ridiculous prices)… If you make note of the style, you usually can get a much better price with much better padding elsewhere.
Here. Check them out. Yes, I know it’s not in temecula. But they might be able to accomodate. http://www.bondedcarpet.com/
