When we were growing up? Some of us are still working on that….
Funny you should ask, because I was just in the middle of unpacking my crap and inventory-ing it….after my parents gave me the ultimatum…”Now that you have your own home, move your crap out of ours, or Goodwill here we come”….Yup, apparently I’m a pack-rat.
Bad news for my daughter. She gets a lot of hands-me-down….Most of which are boy toys.
So…Here’s a trip down memory lane….
Note: to relive a similar childhood hands-on, I’m charging $5 admissions/hour 🙂

Favorite Toys (non electronics):
1. ……Parents never let me and my sibling have a real dog. We got this instead…
4 ….Tribute to my old Mr. Potatohead, whose plastic disintegrated while in storage for the past decades…I will miss you, Original Mr. Potatohead…Especially because you didn’t have leaded paint…RIP…Shown below is the $5 Made in China Amazon.com special, of course…
1…..My first toolset…. Hmmm, I wonder which one I can use to unbolt an Audi coilpack.. Unfortunately the nails and green wrench has seen better days..
Side note: if anyone is aware of a company/facility that can do injection molds that are open to general consumers, let me know. It would be interesting to have someone remake the wrench and nails…
2. Space Shuttle. Since at one point my dad worked for defense/space and comm. Back then, toys like this were made in usa….just like our space program….Today, toys are made overseas, outsourced to companies that are the lowest bidders….just like our space program… Oh, the irony….
3… Got this, with someone telling me…”One day, you’ll be able to afford a real one”….Fvcker lied…Affording a Porsche cup car hasn’t come around yet 30 years later….
4. This thing is cool. It works on air..You pump it up, and the air pressure propels the wheels…It was working fine…until my daughter pulled the pump apart…last week 🙁
Made in USA… Currently in workshop being repaired.
5… HotWheels/Matchbox stuff (Missing my Hotwheels car collection…)
I wanted a “Super cliff hanger” racetrack.. But this was much cooler, because the purpose was to crash as many cars as you can…. I bent a few Hot Wheels playing with this.
7. Missing. Collection of original Transformers…Bought with my allowances…I’ll be mad if I can’t find them….

Things that go beep…..
1. Radio Shack science kit…Back then, Radio Shack was cool for geeks since you could find crap like this…Needless to say, I’m surprised Radio Shack is still around with a business model like that ….
Center: Apple IIe/64k memory 80 column text card, super serial card, FAST 300baud modem…with TWO “new” Disk II 5.25″ floppy drives, one made in Japan compact drive..Monitor sold separately…
Far Left: Mac SE-30/Featuring 8mbram/80HD with the super fast MC68030/16mhz…
Left: Mac IIsi 8mbram/80HD featuring MC68030/20mhz and a VideoSpigot video capture card!!!!
Far Right: Symantec C++ for mac….I hated that thing….
Most of this was made in USA with parts overseas…
5…The reason I won’t ever buy something not Canon. Side note: if only my dad like Leica’s….
[img_assist|nid=14160|title=canon|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=400|height=267]
Left: Canon QL17 belonged to my pops…Taught me how to take pictures on it and got me started on a otherwise very expensive hobby..
Right: Canon AE-1P from Papa that I used while school head photog.. Still works.
Both made in japan..
