What about getting a teaching license additionally to your technical degree? Probably quite a bit of demand for maths/science/CS teachers who actually know their fields. And a tenured government job provides decent security. Hours and vaca aren’t bad either even if pay isn’t great.
And you’d be doing some good as well as making money. Also have enough time for side projects and travel if that turns you on.
Yeah, I realize that most people here don’t aspire to a “safe” public-sector job, but it’s another thing to consider.
