Well, you can call this abuse if you want, and this probably isn’t widespread. But a some folks that were c-level+ folks at companies a few weeks (month or more) back volunteered to be let go with very interesting arrangements.
*Negotiated 6-8 months of severance..
*Paid as a one-time lump sum bonus, minus 2-3 weeks.
*The 2-3 weeks was so they would be classified as laidoff instead of quiting (though, it did save others from getting axed).
*Said folks are collecting unemployment, and they were pretty firm about not wanting to return to work anytime soon.
…So, it’s kinda ironic. For the next 6-8 months, these folks’ take home pay is slightly more than when they worked.
..And to think that in the economic times, moving to a different firm for a better opportunity and continuing a side biz would have been the smart thing for me to do….lol… (ok… I can’t complain, since I work a lot with Asian firms which somehow manages to hire some of good looking women enginerds.)
