well, hold on. the concept I think is that you’re supposed to be protected from yourself, and to be gently guided into historically safe choices. Move with the herd, and you will probably be ok, the experts say. if the plans offered contrarian choices, or long shots, they might be open to lawsuits for offering crappy advice int he event the contrarian view didn’t pan out. I think it’s just one of those things where the plan, by its very nature, cannot be a free selection, because the plan organizer has a fiduciary duty to educate you and move you toward non-stupid decisions. the problem is, the herd could be running for a cliff.
