The Mustang doesn’t have IRS for two main reasons
1) cost – the bulk of mustangs sold are relatively cheap (say 25k or less) and redeveloping the suspension would cost money
2) Ford believes that most ‘racing’ mustangs are racing in a straightline rather than autocross. The solid rear axle holds up better to clutch drop starts
