that sense that “family is important and everything else is trivial is probably biologically based. after all, the woman has invested reproductively in this one poor slob. genetically, the dude is thinking, goddamnit, I could go out and spread my seed all over the palce. so, no, there is nothing at our essential animal core that is particualrly noble about staying to raise the young ones. it’s just the way it is socially, big penalties for leaving. in general, i think women complain no matter what…if they stay home, if they work, whatever, i think msot guys would be happy to do anything and stay if women just would stop complaining. maybe that’s not possible, but if so, the divorce rate wills still remain high. culd be just my skewed view, but i think most guys eventually feel that whatever they do, they are doomed, so they might as well leave
