surveyor, one thing to consider is: are we better off dealing with the Muslim issue on our terms or theirs? We have a choice as to how to ‘counter-punch’ the enemy. Some tactics work better than others.
And certainly, American dependence on middle east oil, imperialist by definition, aided and abetted by our corporate oligarchy, impairs our ability to deal with that part of the world.
Address the energy issue with facts, honesty and effectiveness. Begin to decouple from oil, reducing imports in the short term. The Arabs will fight it out with Russia, India and China. It’s a mistake to view this through a Cold War lens.
BTW, I don’t think freedom means the right to consume infinitely. The next great depression will cure that misconception. Buckle up. It’s not a bad thing. My grandparents were strong men and women, and the greatest generation, because of it.
