In the news next. Public schools suspends field trips to parks/zoos over concerns of lawsuits…..
The family of a 10-year-old boy has filed a claim against the Mountain Empire Unified School District for $100,000 after the boy fractured his elbow on a school field trip, according to district documents.
Beau Nares was visiting the San Diego Wild Animal Park, now known as the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, with his class on May 12 when he injured himself, the claim said.
The family said the children on the trip were not properly supervised.
“Beau jumped from the top of the stairs at the Brass Gorilla statue,” according to the claim. “He fell and landed on his right hand resulting in a fracture to his arm.”
A claim often is a precursor to a lawsuit.
