Sorry but dissent is part of a democracy. Your husband and wife bickering example is simply a case of you saying the husband is always right and the wife is being an obstructionist.
Of course it also doesnt address the fact that the husband and wife used to have a supermajority and saw storm clouds on the horizon but chose to deal with the upcoming storm in the same way as all the previous husbands and wives… that is to not deal with them.
