so we’re looking at some places, including a cheap place my wife normally wouldnt consider and I drag her there just to have a look –and she kind of actually likes it. it’s not really what she wants, it’s old and kind of beat up, the carpets is gross, the house is pushing 40 years old, but the pool is beautiful, it’s centrally located, and it’s cheap! so, is this a dumb thought — i told her look, let’s make a lower offe, say 20% off, just for the hell of it, the monthly payment would then be about $1,000 less than our rent payment, we’ll get a tax credit back next year, we’ll live there for a few years, and when we find a great place, we’ll rent this out, or maybe possibly if we get lucky sell it for a few bucks. it’s old and beat up, but it sure seems like we’d be able to more than cover the low mortgage payment witha tenant, if rents don’t crash, and the monthly payents so relatively low, it wouldn’t be so devastating to have to cover an eviction. the only downside i suppose is that the place is old, there was clearly some plumbing issue being dealt with, maybe it could get expensive. I don’t know. is this a dumb idea? Will she be mad if we never move? the place is so cheap, though, we could practically just keep it as a home office….i just love love love cheap. it doesn’t quite do as much for her, but dang, just saving $1,000 every month, it would cover a LOT of repairs….
