What they’re going to do with it is avoid the huge hit to education spending that otherwise would have been necessary. As has already been suggested, I’m sure there will be other interests fighting for this “new” money, except there is no “new” money.
It will be interesting to see if Jerry Brown stays the course and insists on cutting other spending. He didn’t campaign as a free spender. So far he’s kept his promises on what he’s going to do with taxes and spending. If he sticks to it, California has a fighting chance.[/quote]

You know that’s the thing. When the public schools are bleeding I don’t understand why they don’t trim the fat….There’s a bunch of courses being offered that really don’t lead to something that is employable. I don’t understand why those things cannot be eliminated. They’re a taxpayer’s burden, and don’t help someone develop a career….There’s plenty of course pork that can just be eliminated.
I don’t understand why we (taxpayers) need to support paying for students who aren’t of even legal residence here. In my area, they’re offering free english language classes to any adult living nearby. That comes out of a budget somewhere too.. And where I live, I mean it’s not that people can’t afford to pay for a language school if they really wanted it…All these supplemental programs are great…When there’s a budget for it…But when times are tough, don’t people think they should be trimmed?
And I think NSR pointed this out. A few days after prop 30 passed, CSU prez says they are given students the option to graduate earlier/on time if they pay additional “fees”…
So it’s just like how I see it. When people see $1 available, they figure out a way to spend $4, and every program “cannot be cut”… Only when there is $0, do people actually start making hard meaningful choices.
