Simple supply and demand….Too MBAs chasing too few positions. Wasn’t this the route a lot of folks went to escape the “threat of outsourcing”? I read too many times awhile back college folks were saying “why should I major in engineering when I can go get an MBA and do some higher level stuff”.
Well, I think they are finding out is that higher level stuff is “fluff” that usually is reserved for a very select few truely smart people. Everyone else gets pushed into being a business analyst, marketing helper, etc, which is the first thing to go when expenses need to be cut.
Meanwhile, we just hired a few recent college grads with with a M.S and 0-1 year of experience….Starting salary is $80k excluding benefits/etc. I never thought starting salaries were as good as they are, but again, I guess it’s supply and demand….And QC is like trying to hire a boatload, so we had to compete with them. There’s never been a better time to a new college grad with the right engineering degree. In today’s economy, companies are looking to cut the more expensive enginerds and replace then with 3-4 younger versions. I will I was starting out from college now.
