And regarding the op’s question:
While I do think his remarks are dumb, I generally think that bans are a weak solution (especially when we don’t have a single list of illegal communication (at least so far as I aware)). Something like slashdot’s ranking and karma system would be far preferable to simply silencing undesirable opinions (annoying though they may be).
I think unless he has threatened someone or posted kiddie porn or something similar, let the jackass speak. He has the right to say ignorant stuff.
