I can see how you would have the energy and technological expertise to do that FLU. Tough non-schedule though. Yikes.
Rustico, just to followup… As of this posting it is approximately 1:49am on Thursday 11/13. I think I left for work at 7:15am yesterday morning.
I did come home around 8pm last night, ate dinner, saw my daughter for a little, and started working again 9pm after she went to sleep, until now
…Because somewhere along the line of shit hitting the fan at work, a few meetings, a production release due, and a couple of last minute emergency presentations that needed to be put together, I sort of lost track of time….
Sometimes I wonder if I worked at McDonalds with the same hours, if I were to be paid more…So much for undocumented hours…
The interesting part is that if I do get laidoff, it would be interesting to see management’s reactions 1 month after I’m gone. Not that I really think I’m important. I’m usually someone that believes 1 person really doesn’t make that much of a difference…But, not trying to be arrogant, somehow, someway, in the effort to cost cut, company’s are putting more responsbilities into fewer people….Which is getting to be borderline dangerous if there are subsequent rounds of reductions. First rule of running an efficient company is to make sure that if 1 person is not there, it doesn’t impact a project. If toofew people hold the keys to thing that are actively used, and the key get lost, interesting things happen..And when a company starts to bank more and more responsibilities on fewer people, interesting things start to happen. Usually, a company that rifs someone, sticks a carrot out there…You get a severance package if you do appropriate transition of knowledge to others. And most people do this dog and pony thing and take the severance, good or bad….BUT, what some people haven’t realized, that often time, if they are in a situation for which they are one of the few keyholders, the key(s) are in many cases worth a hell of a lot more than a severance package…
Lesson to be learned in this economy: grab as many keys as you can as soon as you can….Lesson to be learned in this economy if you are actively managing people: make sure you don’t give too many keys to the same person.
