Fwiw – it’s not a courtyard between the houses – we have a decent size backyard – and then the granny flat is on the back part of the lot – down the hill from our house. You could say we “look down on them”. LOL. They have their own private patio area facing the view (canyon, Mt Soledad, etc.)
And I didn’t include the granny flat space in the 2000sf… because I don’t live in that space – my inlaws do. But Brian might consider that functionally obsolete, also…700 sf, 1 bath… but it does have AC since we put in a heat pump unit for the HVAC.
Even with the granny flat I don’t think our house/lot qualify as a McMansion… too old and combined SF is only 2700sf.
