9) Just because you live a long way from Detroit does not mean that the fallout from what is happening right now will not affect you or your livelihood. There are 400 +/- cars parts suppliers in SoCal. All those 400 companies do business with other companies in SoCal and the tentacles of interconnectivity spread out and touch many seemingly unrelated industries. This will affect YOU, although you may never realise it.
Again, I think the fallout will be more from the recession than anything else. Car manufacturers as a whole don’t need to be producing nearly as many cars/trucks that they are/were producing. It doesn’t matter how great quality the cars are, or what features, how it looks etc. The pool of people capable and willing to buy a new car has shrunken, and as such the manufacturers and parts industry need to scale accordingly. Unfortunately, that means job losses…Some more so than others. No one who depended on those revolving credit lines/home ATM’s are in any financial shape to buy…err..I mean borrow to buy/lease a new car….If I were working in the auto industry, the last thing I would be thinking is making any big purchases, whether it’s a new car or a new home.
BTW: Who is Jeff Bridges? Edit. Did some research…Never mind… I guess he stared in Tron awhile ago…Sorry, didn’t ring a bell for generation X’ers like me.
