Remember that HOA fees cover at least some work that you’d otherwise do yourself. So it’s not zero vs the HOA fee. More like 50% of HOA vs the full HOA. This assumes a well-run HOA with adequate reserves.
Personally, HOA isn’t my cuppa tea unless it’s an apartment building, but one has to see things as they are.
