FWIW think a well designed and personally built tiny house is a better deal…
a few weeks ago went to a tiny house weekend work shop to see for my self what was going on…
according to the presenter basically 99% of the tiny homes were used as (in place) tiny homes!
one thing to consider about any tiny house design (for mobile use) is the standard RV parks is the utility hookup are on the “drivers” side and if you had to stop on the side of the road to get into the structure would involve being exposed to “traffic” because the entry door is on the “drivers” side…
for example, if I were to build a “tiny house” design that would make burning man a bit more comfortable
NOTE the one thing I would change is the layout to standardize the utility hook-ups on the driver side and the “entry” door on the passenger side

(B) Cord. The cord exposed usable length shall be measured
from the point of entrance to the recreational vehicle or the
face of the flanged surface inlet (motor-base attachment plug)
to the face of the attachment plug at the supply end.
The cord exposed usable length, measured to the point of
entry on the vehicle exterior, shall be a minimum of 7.5 m
(25 ft) where the point of entrance is at the side of the vehicle
or shall be a minimum 9.0 m (30 ft) where the point of entrance
is at the rear of the vehicle.
Where the cord entrance into the vehicle is more than
900 mm (3 ft) above the ground, the minimum cord lengths
above shall be increased by the vertical distance of the cord
entrance heights above 900 mm (3 ft).
also thought I’d mention there are some pretty “artful” turnkey tiny home which would be more in line w/ the burning man aesthetic
but its an all wood “work of art” that might not survive a road trip to the playa (looking as well as well as it did pre-playa)
also thought I’d mention that I asked about insurance/taxes, basically the presenter said he didn’t worry about insuring his tiny house so basically if it burns down he will eat the cost… wrt “taxes” the value added above the cost of the trailer (i.e. the tiny house structure) isn’t taxed (in this specific case)
